St. Louis (BNN): Rumors are swirling in St. Louis that the Cardinals have reached out to free agent pitcher Roy Oswalt about a possible short-term contract with the club. Though there was no official comment from either side, sources familiar with the discussions indicated that GM Martin Osterman was prepared to offer Oswalt a contract in the ballpark of $4 million for the 2012 season.
The veteran right-hander has the potential to pitch but it is not certain how effective or well he will pitch. Another question being raised by analysts is how the club would arrange their bullpen to fit him. Most analysts believe that Lance Lynn would likely take to the bullpen and Oswalt would fill his spot in the rotation. However, this would take away any opportunities for the young right-hander to get major-league starting experience.
