St. Louis (BNN) – One day into Martin Osterman’s tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals and the GM is already hard at work cleaning house. BNN has received a number of reports from the Cardinals organization of some of the changes that have taken place.
Team sources have informed BNN that Osterman has ended bench coach Mike Aldrete’s contract effective today. No official comment was made by the team, but a source close to the General Manager’s office indicated that they were looking to retain the services of a more veteran bench coach who had been around the league for some time.
Additionally, Osterman has terminated contracts with all minor-league management staff in their rookie and short-A affiliates – Johnson City, Jupiter, and Batavia. There were no words on who will be occupying those management slots, but several names have been floated including Terry Francona and Dave Trembley. The moves do come at an opportune time since the leagues do not begin their regular seasons until after the Amateur Draft in June.
